January 2023 Duck Hunt

Drew Blake, President, and Michael Fussell, Fundraising Director, hosted a Marine veteran (Daniel Smith) for his first duck hunt on January 12-15, 2023.  The trip began under less then ideal conditions with Michael suffering a catastrophic boat trailer failure less than halfway through his trip down.  Drew and Daniel started the trip with a roughly 3 mile kayak paddle up an eastern North Carolina river.  They finally got to their hunt location around 8:30am and set up the spread.  Shortly after setting up a huge flock of resident geese made swing though no shots were fired.  After a long paddle back to the dock with sporadic scouting along the way Daniel and Drew enjoyed a dinner at a local restaurant before enjoying a night by the campfire at the Air B and B that they rented for the weekend. 2023 Rifle Deer Camp

Flat Branch Hunt Club North Carolina

The 2023 GEO Rifle Deer Camp was once again be hosted by Flat Branch Hunt Club in Bunnlevel, North Carolina.  Flat Branch features several properties that are spread throughout Harnett County in North Carolina.  Lodging for guests will be provided at the Flat Branch clubhouse.  Flat Branch features varying terrain and hunt locations ranging from mature hardwood ridges, active agricultural fields, pine plantations, and hardwood bottomlands.  Guests for the event were be with a club member or event volunteer to guide them to and from hunt locations. The 2023 Deer Camp was our largest event to date and featured seventeen (17) people including four (4) blind/visually impaired hunters (2 of which were veterans), two (2) additional veterans, two (2) first responders, seven (7) volunteers, and four (4) GEO Staff Members.  Two of our female blinded veteran hunters each harvested deer on their Saturday afternoon.  Monaca Gilmore, paired with Jim Edgell,…

2024 Turkey Camp

2024 Turkey Camp Dates April 19-21, 2024 Location Pisgah National Forest Camp Location: Black Bear Campground 6196 Lake James Road, Marion, North Carolina 28752 Virtual Pre-Event Informational and Meet & Greet Session will be held April 3rd at 7:30 Come join staff members Drew Blake, James Kiser, Michael Fussell, and Jonathon Wallace as they trek across the mountains and valley of the majestic Pisgah National Forest.  Hunting will consist of long walks on established trails throughout Linville Gorge area.  Early mornings will be common place and a day and a half of hunting is expected.  Camp will be located at Black Bear Campground and will be primitive.  Running water will be onsite with a common bathhouse centrally located in the campground.  No electric service is provided to the campsite so please bring all the chargers, battery packs, and other electric charging devices that you need to get through a weekend.

Kerr Lake Striper & Catfish Weekend Dates: May 31st - June 2nd Location: Henderson Point Campground Address: 1427 Rev Henderson Rd, Henderson, NC 27537 Sign Ups Close: Midnight April 1, 2024 Four Open Positions for Applicants Only.  Volunteers are not needed for this event. A minimum $35 donation will be required following selection to attend the event.  Event Description: Brian Harris (blinded veteran) and Monaca Gilmore (Mentor Program Coordinator) joined Drew Blake and Cam Patrick for a weekend of fishing on Kerr Lake/Buggs Island Reservoir.  Buggs Island consists of nearly 50,000 acres of surface water and 800 miles of shoreline.  Join us as we target two of the lakes well known fisheries (Striped Bass and Catfish).  Buggs Island is known to have two "schools" of stripers which is based on their original stocking locations.  One school ranges from Clarksville to the Ivy Hill area and "migrates" up the Dan River. …

Camp Don Lee was the perfect venue for our unique and diverse group of participants and volunteers. Our staff overcame the occasional boat issues and adapted to deliver an awesome event. 2024 Deer Camp Dates: October 18-20 Location: Caldwell County, NC The 2024 GEO Deer Camp was hosted by MAG Feeders and Double G Ranch in Caldwell County, North Carolina and was our first ever archery hunt.  Caldwell County is in the northwest section of North Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is bounded on the northwest by Watauga County, on the northeast by Wilkes County, on the east by Alexander County, on the south by Catawba and Burke Counties and on the west by Burke and Avery Counties. It is located approximately 69 miles northwest of Charlotte, 84 miles southwest of Winston-Salem, and 90 miles northeast of Asheville and boasts breathtaking views from elevation ranges from 900 feet to 5,964 feet. Leland Little Sporting Art Fair A Celebration of Community, Art, History, and the Sporting Lifestyle Leland Little is delighted to host our fourth annual Sporting Art Fair on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 from 9:00am - 2:00pm. Although hosted on the grounds and within the galleries of Leland Little, this is a community event brought forth by a group of partners who are personally and professionally invested in the world of sporting art. The Sporting Art Fair is for everyone. Expect a day full of exhibitions, in-person demonstrations, great food, activities for all ages, and above all, a whole lot of fun.
