SUMMARY:2024 Deer Camp
DESCRIPTION:2024 Deer Camp\nDates: October 18-20\nLocation: Caldwell County\, NC\nThe 2024 GEO Deer Camp was hosted by MAG Feeders and Double G Ranch in Caldwell County\, North Carolina and was our first ever archery hunt.  Caldwell County is in the northwest section of North Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is bounded on the northwest by Watauga County\, on the northeast by Wilkes County\, on the east by Alexander County\, on the south by Catawba and Burke Counties and on the west by Burke and Avery Counties. It is located approximately 69 miles northwest of Charlotte\, 84 miles southwest of Winston-Salem\, and 90 miles northeast of Asheville and boasts breathtaking views from elevation ranges from 900 feet to 5\,964 feet. \nA total of thirty-two (32) people (Staff\, Volunteers\, and Participants) signed up to attend this event which was the largest number to sign up for any event to this point.  Ultimately sixteen (16) people wound up attending with five (5) of them being selected to hunt at the event.  The remain positions were filled by staff and our largest outpouring of volunteers that we have ever seen.  MAG Outdoors not only pulled out all the stops but they pulled out a community of people.  We cannot thank them enough for the support they have shown our organization in just the few short months that we have known each other. \nLodging was provided for guests and volunteers in tents that  were provided by GEO and consisted of a 10-ft x 12-ft canvas wall tent from The Wall Tent Shop  and a 10-ft x 12-ft Kodiak Canvas tent.  Guests for the event were provided a volunteer guide and experienced the finest of North Carolina whitetail deer hunting in temporary ground blinds carefully positioned over looking the finest feeder on the market\, the 150 pound MAG feeder. \nFriday Night Dinner\nFriday night (October 18th) started with a large camp fire meet and greet featuring spaghetti prepared by Paul Rhoades of Sizzlin Arrow. Everyone chowed down and prepared for the day ahead. \nSaturday (October 19th) \nSaturday started off with an early morning wake up call for staff (4:00am) to prepare for the day.  Participants and volunteers weren’t able to sleep much long with a wake up call of 5:00am.  Fortunately for them they woke up to a warm breakfast again prepared by Paul Rhoades.  The morning started off quickly and on a good note when veteran Dominic Bennett arrowed his first buck with volunteer Jonathon Wallace.   Action occurred for all hunt groups as Drew Blake and Terry Richardson witnessed a couple large bucks across a pasture but they disappeared before getting to them.  Aaron Rich and first responder Robby Holderfield had multiple shots at a nice 6 point but were unable to connect.  All groups were back in by 11:00 for a lunch and a well deserved rest.  The afternoon saw less action with the only action coming from Dominic and Jonathon when Dominic missed an opportunity at a large doe. \nSaturday evening featured our “Saturday Night Special” which centered around a hog that was provided by James Kiser.  This hog was slow grilled throughout the day and perfectly prepared by James and Paul. \n \nThe rest of the staff fell in to pull and chop the pork prior to the crowd arriving\, and boy was it a crowd.  James and Alison Reed of MAG Outdoors pulled out all the stops with their family in attendance providing all the fixin’s and desserts that go with a perfect southern pig pickin’.  Again\, we can’t thank them enough for their unwavering support of our organization. \nSunday (October 20th) \nOur last day started off the same as Saturday with an early wake up call that was made even more difficult following a large dinner.  Sunday morning was slow in action with Ben Pierce being the only hunter with an opportunity.  Unfortunately\, he was unable to connect with a doe.  All groups were back in by 10:00 for final interviews and goodbyes.  Following the departure of all the participants the staff and volunteers made quick work of breaking down camp and with final goodbyes our 2024 Deer Camp ended just as quickly as it started. \nClick Here to Check Out Videos From This Event\n \n

SUMMARY:2024 Trophy Drum Weekend
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nDates: August 30 – September 1\nLocation: Camp Don Lee\n315 Camp Don Lee Rd\, Arapahoe\, NC 28510\n$100/person Donation Required to Attend\nThank you to everyone that came out to Camp Don Lee to join our 2024 Trophy Drum Weekend! We also wanted to extend a special thank you to our volunteer boat captains and our sponsors for helping to make this event happen.  \nLabor day traffic in no way set the tone for the incredible time we had on the water and this was an adventure to remember! Camp Don Lee was the perfect venue for our unique and diverse group of participants and volunteers. Our staff overcame the occasional boat issues and adapted to deliver an awesome event. At one point\, we were down to one operational boat\, but the participants rotated through in groups and piled on the boat for a great time. While we unfortunately did not reel in any Trophy Drum\, multiple participants felt the rod bow forward and heard the drag scream as line was pulled out of the reel and likely taken by an elusive Trophy Drum.  We were however successful and concluded the event with a big blue and five (5) rays being caught. While not fishing\, participants enjoyed activities such as kayaking\, swimming\, log rolling (or attempting to) and relaxing around the beautiful campus of Camp Don Lee. Before turning in for the night\, we ended around the crackling sounds of the campfire with hopes that event would never end and we are already looking forward to next year.  \n  \nCheck Out The Event Videos Here\n \nAbout Camp Don Lee\n \nExperience the presence of God through wind and water\, story and song\, and friendships that last a lifetime. Don Lee Center has offered Christian camping experiences to all ages for more than 70 years. \nNestled on the north shore of the Neuse River near Oriental\, North Carolina\, Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center is an ideal setting to learn sailing\, explore God’s creation and grow in faith. \nDon Lee Summer Camps offer a nationally recognized program of excellence in sailing and coastal adventures centered around small group Christian living.  The primary goal of the many summer programs offered is to teach campers what it means to work as a team and help them develop their faith all while having fun participating in amazing activities. \nDon Lee Center offers ideal programs for children and youth through the Common Ground school program looking for cooperation and team building skills. Coastal Communities\, a school program that takes a closer look at the coastal and river ecosystems\, helps nurture over 6000 students each year. \nDon Lee Center also serves as a Retreat Center offering a place for groups of all sizes and backgrounds to come together and bond through fellowship during meals and activities.  We have hosted various groups ranging from families to church groups to college organizations. \nDon Lee Center seeks to nurture persons to become spiritually mature who\, motivated by God’s love\, will live and practice lifestyles of care for the common good. \nDon Lee Camp & Retreat Center is affiliated by faith with The North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and is operated by NC United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries\, Inc. \n

SUMMARY:Kerr Lake Striper & Catfish Weekend
DESCRIPTION:KERR LAKE STRIPER & CATFISH WEEKEND\nThis Event was Canceled due to low participant sign up\nDates: July 12th – 14th\nLocation: County Line Campground\nAddress: 200 County Line Park Rd\, Henderson\, NC 27537\nSign Ups Close: Midnight June 1\, 2024\nFour Open Positions for Applicants Only.  Volunteers are not needed for this event.\nA minimum $35 donation will be required following selection to attend the event. \nEvent Description: \nCome join Drew Blake and Michael Fussell for a weekend of fishing on Kerr Lake/Buggs Island Reservoir.  Buggs Island consists of nearly 50\,000 acres of surface water and 800 miles of shoreline.  Join us as we target two of the lakes well known fisheries (Striped Bass and Catfish).  Buggs Island is known to have two “schools” of stripers which is based on their original stocking locations.  One school ranges from Clarksville to the Ivy Hill area and “migrates” up the Dan River.  During spring\, these stripers can be found in the upper end of the lake and in the river above Clarksville as fish travel upstream to spawn.  The second school ranges from Eastland Creek back toward the dam and “migrates” up to Nutbush Creek.   As the summer progresses the upper school migrates down the lake and joins the lower school around Eastland Creek due to a combination of high water temperatures and low dissolved oxygen which forces striped bass to be found in the lower end of the lake (the dam to about Buoy 9 and in the mouth of Nutbush Creek).  Striped bass caught during the summer suffer high mortality rates when released (approximately 75 percent). Therefore\, both NC and VA have removed the size limit restriction during the summer months (June – September) and ask that anglers halt striper fishing when they catch their legal limit of four striped bass per day rather than continue to catch fish and cull smaller fish. \nBuggs Island is also home to the World Record Blue Catfish weighing in at a whopping 143 pounds.  Catfish can be caught throughout the lake by focusing on points next to deep channels. \nStriped bass will be targeted with Drew on a  Sea Hunt BX21 bay boat using live bait and/or deep water trolling depending on conditions at the time.  Live baiting will consist of 6-8 rods rigged with modified Carolina Rigs topped off with herring or bream fishing in depths from 10-40 feet deep.  Deep Water Trolling will consist of 4 rods fished off of Cannon downriggers and two leadcore rods fishing at depths from 25-60 feet deep. Trolling will use a variety of lure combinations but the most common ones are Alabama rigs topped with bucktails and Striper Sniper Snake worms or a three way swivel with a diving lure on the bottom and a bucktail on the top. \nCatfish will be targeted with Michael on an 18′ Lund boat using Santee Cooper Rigs\, Carolina Rigs\, float rigs and/or noodles ranging from shallow points and coves (10-15 feet deep) to deep water channel ledges (30-40 feet deep) depending on conditions.  Catfishing will utilize Chum-It chum tubes to attract fish and encourage feeding.  Attendees will be rotated through both boats during the day depending on catch rates.  Night time catfishing will occur on both boats. \nOvernight camping will occur on two  adjoining waterfront campsites at County Line Campground in our 10×12 Canvas Wall Tent from The Wall Tent Shop and a Davis Canvas Tent.  Campsites are non-electric. \n\n July 2024 - Striper & Catfish Sign Up FormΔ\n July 2024 - Kerr Lake Striper & Catfish\n\n\nComplete this form to sign up for the event. \n\n\n\n First NameLast NamePhoneEmailWhat is your birthday? Please provide your Drivers License or government ID NumberPlease provide your NC Wildlife Commission License NumberPlease provide your current mailing addressAddress Line 1Address Line 2CityStateZip CodeCountrySelect CountryAfghanistanAland IslandsAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBonaire\, Saint Eustatius and SabaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBritish Virgin IslandsBruneiBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCabo VerdeCambodiaCameroonCanadaCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos (Keeling) IslandsColombiaComorosCook IslandsCosta RicaCroatiaCubaCuraçaoCyprusCzech RepublicDemocratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa)DenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEcuadorEgyptEl SalvadorEquatorial GuineaEritreaEstoniaEswatiniEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGhanaGibraltarGreeceGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard Island and McDonald IslandsHondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyIvory CoastJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKosovoKuwaitKyrgyzstanLaosLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacao S.A.R.\, ChinaMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldovaMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth KoreaNorth MacedoniaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestinian TerritoryPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairnPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarRepublic of the Congo (Brazzaville)RomaniaRussiaRwandaRéunionSaint BarthélemySaint HelenaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint Martin (Dutch part)Saint Martin (French part)Saint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSamoaSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSlovakiaSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth Georgia/Sandwich IslandsSouth KoreaSouth SudanSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan MayenSwedenSwitzerlandSyriaTaiwanTajikistanTanzaniaThailandTimor-LesteTogoTokelauTongaTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluTürkiyeUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUnited Kingdom (UK)United States (US)United States (US) Minor Outlying IslandsUnited States (US) Virgin IslandsUruguayUzbekistanVanuatuVaticanVenezuelaVietnamWallis and FutunaWestern SaharaYemenZambiaZimbabwePlease identify your racePlease choose your gender- Select -MaleFemalePlease choose your age group- Select -0-910-1920-2930-3940-4950-5960-6970-79Please Indicate Your Shirt SizeAdult MediumAdult LargeAdult Extra LargeAdult 2XLHave you attended a GEO event in the pastYesNoSelect Your Event Role- Select -Blind/Visually ImpairedVeteranFirst ResponderFlat Branch Club MemberVolunteerGEO StaffAre you Blind or visually impaired and wanting to fish in this event- Select -YesNoAre you a Military Veteran and wanting to fish in this event- Select -YesNoAre you a First Responder and wanting to fish in this event- Select -YesNoAre you volunteering for this event- Select -YesNoAre you a staff member of GEO- Select -YesNoBlind & Visually Impaired QuestionsThis section contains questions so that we can serve you better. SUMMARY:Kerr Lake Striper and Catfish Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Kerr Lake Striper & Catfish Weekend\nDates: May 31st – June 2nd\nLocation: Henderson Point Campground\nAddress: 1427 Rev Henderson Rd\, Henderson\, NC 27537\nSign Ups Close: Midnight April 1\, 2024\nFour Open Positions for Applicants Only.  Volunteers are not needed for this event.\nA minimum $35 donation will be required following selection to attend the event. \nEvent Description: \nBrian Harris (blinded veteran) and Monaca Gilmore (Mentor Program Coordinator) joined Drew Blake and Cam Patrick for a weekend of fishing on Kerr Lake/Buggs Island Reservoir. \nThe trip started Friday evening with the group checking into the campsite at Henderson Point Campground.  Camp started with Drew and Cam setting up the Davis Canvas Tent.  This tent was chosen over the Wall Tent Shop wall tent due to the limited space of the campsite and due to the small number of participants. Brian and Monaca quickly joined in and helped setup the Disc-o-Bed Cot Bunk beds while Drew and Cam cooked dinner and setup things for the next day.  As the sunset\, Cam and Drew launched the Sea Hunt BX21 Bay Boat from the boat ramp and tied it up along the shore of the campsite.  Drew then loaded the boat down for the next morning with ten (10) fishing rods\, 6 for trolling for stripers and 4 for catfishing\, along with fifteen (15) catfish noodles\, cannon downriggers\, and two (2) Icey-Tek coolers full of ice\, drinks and snacks.  The rest of the night consisted of Drew and Cam preparing trolling rigs and strategizing the plan for the next day while Monaca and Brian enjoyed some long awaited friend time by the campfire. \nSaturday morning came early as the crew departed camp not long after sunrise and soon began targeting stripers.  Drew and Cam threw every trick in the book at the fish in an attempt to make a striper bite the hook.  Drew made the decision to switch up species after 5 hours of no action covering miles and miles of the lake.  Cam began baiting noodles while Drew navigated the boat to a cove that consistently produces high numbers of catfish.  Drew utilized the Lowrance Elite 12Ti to locate the perfect underwater ledges and channels and told Cam to toss the noodles.  The first fish bit before all the noodles were set and from then on it was immediate and constant action for 30-45 minutes.  The crew boated five (5) catfish that were the perfect eating size.  The crew decided to call it a day after nearly 9 hours on the boat.  Back at camp\, Cam cooked steaks over an open fire while Drew deep fried hushpuppies along with the freshly caught catfish.  Everyone enjoyed the meal with Brian eating his first fried catfish. \nSunday morning the crew had a short time to fish before Brian had to make his flight out of RDU back to Chicago.  They set out early and decided to skip the stripers and target catfish.  The morning started off interesting with a huge snapping turtle taking the bait.  Catching turtles is bad luck when fishing so Drew made the decision to change location.  The noodles were redeployed and it wasn’t long Brian boated a 4 pound large mouth off a noodle.  After that the crew headed back to camp to start the dreaded task of packing up.  As the trip concluded the crew realized that a special bond was formed over the weekend and Brian insisted that he will be back for future events. \nCheck out the video Here

SUMMARY:2024 Tundra Swan Hunt
DESCRIPTION:2024 Swan Hunt Sign Up FormΔ\n 2024 Duck Hunt Sign Up Form\n\n\n2024 TUNDRA SWAN HUNT\nJanuary 16th\, 2024\nPantego\, NC\nHosted by: H & H Guide Service\nFilmed by: Carolina All Out\nNorth Carolina winters more tundra swans than any other state on the East Coast and therefore plays a huge role in the yearly migration of the Eastern Population of tundra swans. Due to this\, North Carolina consistently harvests the most tundra swans in the United States though those numbers are limited due to the approximately 5\,000 permits that are issued each year. Each fall\, approximately 75\,000-100\,000 tundra swans migrate to northeastern North Carolina to take advantage of the abundant food sources following the fall harvest season.   \n\nH & H Guide Service hosts swan hunts in the Pantego\, NC area and features a 100% harvest rate for the last 18 years.  Hunting can most likely occurs in harvest crop fields utilizing drainage ditches and and field blinds to hide the hunters.  Look them up on Facebook \nCarolina All Out is a regional TV series hosted by Chris Douglas.  Chris spent 16 years of his career traveling across the world pursing game with the camera for numerous national TV series and networks. Understanding that he would be promoting a lifestyle encompassing all things outdoors\, he wanted to create a brand that was simple but cool\, something thought provoking but that also represented the pursuits of the regional sportsman. Chris has videoed and produced outdoor shows for some of the top names in the industry in some of the most remote places on earth. With hundreds of successful hunts\, Chris is the only producer who has ever captured 23 of the 29 North American Big Game animals on professional video equipment. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nPlease complete the form below to claim your spot\n\n\n First NameLast NamePhoneEmailWhat is your birthday? Please provide your Drivers License or government ID NumberPlease provide your NC Wildlife Commission License NumberDo you have your Federal Duck Stamp?- Select -YesNoDo you have your HIP certification?- Select -YesNoPlease provide your current mailing addressAddress Line 1Address Line 2CityStateZip CodeCountrySelect CountryAfghanistanAland IslandsAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBonaire\, Saint Eustatius and SabaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBritish Virgin IslandsBruneiBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCabo VerdeCambodiaCameroonCanadaCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos (Keeling) IslandsColombiaComorosCook IslandsCosta RicaCroatiaCubaCuraçaoCyprusCzech RepublicDemocratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa)DenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEcuadorEgyptEl SalvadorEquatorial GuineaEritreaEstoniaEswatiniEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGhanaGibraltarGreeceGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard Island and McDonald IslandsHondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyIvory CoastJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKosovoKuwaitKyrgyzstanLaosLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacao S.A.R.\, ChinaMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldovaMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth KoreaNorth MacedoniaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestinian TerritoryPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairnPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarRepublic of the Congo (Brazzaville)RomaniaRussiaRwandaRéunionSaint BarthélemySaint HelenaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint Martin (Dutch part)Saint Martin (French part)Saint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSamoaSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSlovakiaSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth Georgia/Sandwich IslandsSouth KoreaSouth SudanSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan MayenSwedenSwitzerlandSyriaTaiwanTajikistanTanzaniaThailandTimor-LesteTogoTokelauTongaTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluTürkiyeUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUnited Kingdom (UK)United States (US)United States (US) Minor Outlying IslandsUnited States (US) Virgin IslandsUruguayUzbekistanVanuatuVaticanVenezuelaVietnamWallis and FutunaWestern SaharaYemenZambiaZimbabwePlease identify your racePlease choose your gender- Select -MaleFemalePlease choose your age group- Select -0-910-1920-2930-3940-4950-5960-6970-79Please Indicate Your Shirt SizeAdult MediumAdult LargeAdult Extra LargeAdult 2XLHave you attended a GEO event in the pastYesNoSelect Your Event Role- Select -Blind/Visually ImpairedVeteranFirst ResponderCarolina All Out CrewH & H Guide ServiceGEO StaffAre you Blind or visually impaired and wanting to hunt in this event- Select -YesNoAre you a Military Veteran and wanting to hunt in this event- Select -YesNoAre you volunteering for this event- Select -YesNoAre you a First Responder and wanting to hunt in this event- Select -YesNoAre you a staff member of GEO- Select -YesNoBlind & Visually Impaired QuestionsThis section contains questions so that we can serve you better. SUMMARY:Duck Camp 2024
DESCRIPTION:2024 Duck Camp\nJanuary 12th-20th\, 2024\nSwansboro\, NC\n\n 2024 Duck Camp Sign UpΔ\n 2024 Duck Hunt Sign Up Form\n\n\nThe 2024 Duck Camp will be based of Swansboro\, NC from January 12th-20th\, 2024.  Hunters will experience a wide range of coastal NC hunting from the quietness of the White Oak River to the shallowest of sounds (Bogue & Core Sounds) to the broadest of rivers (Neuse and Tar-Pam Rivers).  Each days weather and the movement of birds will determine the optimal hunt location each day.  With a combined 30+ years of duck hunting experience guides Michael Fussell and Drew Blake\, our hunters are in for a good time on the water.  Hunts will be out of Michael's Lund 1860 side console boat equipped with a custom duck blind and the much needed camp stove for warm meals.  Hunting out of boat will give our hunt groups the mobility needed to chase birds from the coastal marsh grass to the open water.  Early mornings are a sure thing as we may leave the confines of Carteret County and make the 2 hour ride to the Hyde County area.  Bring your cold weather gear\, ski googles\, and waterproof clothes and get ready from some good ole fashion "Down East" duck hunting.  Click here for a look back on last years hunt. \n  \n\nPlease complete the form below to claim your spot\n\n\n First NameLast NamePhoneEmailWhat is your SUMMARY:January 2023 Duck Hunt
DESCRIPTION:Drew Blake\, President\, and Michael Fussell\, Fundraising Director\, hosted a Marine veteran (Daniel Smith) for his first duck hunt on January 12-15\, 2023.  The trip began under less then ideal conditions with Michael suffering a catastrophic boat trailer failure less than halfway through his trip down.  Drew and Daniel started the trip with a roughly 3 mile kayak paddle up an eastern North Carolina river.  They finally got to their hunt location around 8:30am and set up the spread.  Shortly after setting up a huge flock of resident geese made swing though no shots were fired.  After a long paddle back to the dock with sporadic scouting along the way Daniel and Drew enjoyed a dinner at a local restaurant before enjoying a night by the campfire at the Air B and B that they rented for the weekend. After calling everywhere possible\, Michael decided to load up his brothers kayak and attempt to make the best of the situation. \nDay 2 of the trip consisted of Daniel and Drew doing some unsuccessful scouting and resting prior to the arrival of Michael with fresh intel. After an uneventful afternoon hunt of watching birds land on the other side of the bay Drew and Michael decided to shift things up. That night all three spent a considerable amount of time camouflaging their kayaks in anticipation of the next days hunt. \nDay 3 and Michael’s intel paid off big time.  Due to the lack of a boat they decided to sleep in and let the sun come up before venturing out into the unknown on kayaks.  After a one mile paddle across a bay they setup with birds diving into a cove and neighboring hunters screaming as they just filled their limit.  Michael and Drew hustled to get the decoys out\, a mixture of bluebills\, redheads\, pintails\, puddle ducks and geese were flung out into the water while Daniel waited in anticipation.  10 minutes later the sound of gun fire rang out and Daniel had his first duck\, a stud drake bluebill.  And just as quickly as it began it had ended with Drew and Michael getting in on the action and a three man limit was filled in under 30 minutes.  The afternoon was filled with laughter and drinks in celebration of the feat that had just been accomplished.  To quote the locals “you boys went where in those and did what.”  Yeah we did and we came back with a strap full of ducks while the locals were left scratching their heads. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Archery Deer Hunt
DESCRIPTION:2022 Archery Deer Hunt\n\n\nThe 2022 GEO Archery Deer Hunt occurred across several properties that are spread throughout Alamance\, Person\, and Orange counties in central North Carolina.  Due to funding issues our event participants were heavily reduced to allow funds to be reallocated for the October rifle camp.  Josh Tabor was flown in from Rutland\, Vermont to try his luck at an early season whitetail buck.  Josh hunted exclusively with Drew Blake over 3 days and shared time bonding with Drew and his family.  Meals were prepared by Drew’s wife\, Sarah\, and consisted of venison pasta\, breakfast quesadillas\, and fried catfish with traditional southern sides.  This was Josh’s first experience with catfish which he seemed to enjoy.  Josh and Drew hunted in areas known to produce monster North Carolina whitetail bucks with trail camera photos leading up to the event proving just that.  The pair hunted out of preset Barronett Featherfive ground blinds in landscapes varying from hardwood ridges over looking large creek bottoms\, fallow fields\, and cutovers.  Drew picked Josh up from Raleigh-Durham International Airport at 11:30pm Thursday September 22nd.  The pair arrived back at camp around 1:00am and settled in for the next morning.  Hunting was hot and slow the entire weekend with no deer harvested. Although\, no deer were harvested\, Josh and Drew spent time learning more about each other and deer hunting in the south.  We appreciate Josh for his understanding that our hunts are not guaranteed.  At the end of the day\, our trips are about a lot more then harvesting the animal we’re pursuing.  Our hunts are about getting people outdoors that may not have the resources todo so on their own.  If you like this story and want to learn more about Josh please let us know.  He is looking for a mentor to take him hunting in Vermont.  If you know of anyone in the Rutland area please reach out to us so that we can connect them. \n\nSpecial thanks to the following companies and organizations for supporting this event:\n\n\n\n\n\nHUNTSTAND\nELIMISHIELD HUNT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPUR-PRO\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNC WILDLIFE RESOURCES COMISSION\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHITETAIL GREENS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHALE HABITAT & SEED\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are a few trail camera shots of deer that never showed:\n  \nHere are a few photos from our camp and hunts:\n       \n

SUMMARY:Trophy Bull Drum Fishing Trip
DESCRIPTION:This event featured GEO’s Adaptive Recreation Coordinator\, Chad Hooks\, GEO’s Fundraising Director\, Michael Fussell\, and GEO’s President\, Drew Blake\, targeting Spanish mackerel off the beach of Emerald Isle\, North Carolina. The original idea for this trip was to target trophy drum with Captain Austin Goodwin in the Cedar Island area\, but the weather had other plans Friday night. \nSaturday morning the group launched their boat from Osprey Oaks Marina on Highway 24 in Newport. They started the morning with a 12 mile run to the mouth of Bogue Inlet. Those of you that know Bogue Inlet know that it can be a bit sporty when the wind and tide are bucking each other. And this morning it was. Our crew went out the inlet and settled the boat down around the bell buoy to get a read on the seas. Once everyone was settled in\, they made their way to a hardbottom just over a mile offshore. They dropped four lines in the water pulling cigar minnows on homemade skirt rigs. It wasn’t long and a bait ball popped up on the surface in front of the boat. Mike grabbed a spinning rod rigged with a diamond jig and start chunking it into the bait pod. A few casts later and the first Spanish of the day was in the boat. After that they pulled all the trolling lines in and switched over to chasing bait pods. They found a tide line just outside the inlet and worked the backside of it catching 40-50 Spanish and keeping 8-10. \nMike was perfect casting into the schools and handing the rod off to Chad for him to get in the action. It was a perfect example of how our program should work with a veteran/first responder working his tail off to put a blind/visually impaired person on fish. Later in the day Chad even grabbed a rod and starting casting into the pods. The crew ended the day briefly fishing for inshore species behind Bear Island where Drew caught a 16” flounder. To bad flounder season wasn’t in. They finished the day off with a quick boat ride up the Intercoastal Waterway and were off the water in time to clean their catch and make a great dinner.  Dinner consisted of grilling the Spanish on the charcoal grill in tinfoil topped with butter and wrapped in bacon until they were golden brown served with a side of Cajun fries.

SUMMARY:Kerr Lake Striper/Catfish
DESCRIPTION:June 3rd- 4th\, 2022\n  \nThis event consisted of Drew Blake taking Chad Hooks and Billy Judson on an overnight striper fishing trip.  The trip started with the crew launching the 21′ Sea Hunt BX21 from Ivy Hill Boat Ramp and finding a place to camp along the shore of Mill Creek.  Once camp was setup the crew set out to try some nighttime catfish jugging but was unsuccessful.  The crew jugged until 12 or 1:00 in the morning then decided to call it a night; however\, morning came in only 3 short hours as they were up catching shad around 4:00am.  To catch bait the crew drifted the boat just offshore in around 30 foot of water and deployed spotlights over the side of the boat.  Within a hour bait fish could easily be seen swimming alongside the boat and with a few quick throws of his 8 foot cast net\, Drew had enough 3 to 5 inch shad to fish with for the day.  The crew headed up the lake to the first spot and continued jumping around the lake for a better part of the day without success on the striped bass.  A few hours in\, Drew made the decision to switch over to catfish and it paid off with them boating one 14 pound bluecat and 2 other 3-5 pounders. \n \n  \nPhotographs of the trip\n Kerr Lake Sunrise Drew throwing his cast net to catch bait Chad battling a fish Chad holding his largest fish to date. SUMMARY:2022 Turkey Camp
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n\n\nThe 2022 GEO Turkey Camp was hosted by the prestigious Flat Branch Hunt Club in Bunnlevel\, North Carolina. Guests were provided a guide and cameraman for the event along with lodging and daily meals. We would like to thank Byrd’s BBQ and Noble Meats & Eatery for the awesome meals. Guests experienced the finest of North Carolina turkey hunting in landscapes varying from managed food plots\, agricultural fields\, and planted pine to hardwood creek bottoms. Hunting occurred from temporary ground blinds that were perfectly placed based on hours of scouting and years of hunting knowledge. While the birds did not cooperate this years we were able to get a couple of groups within close proximity of mature gobbling toms. But as fate would have it we were unable to seal the deal. Even though no turkeys were harvested all participants enjoyed much needed relaxation and have formed long lasting bonds. Given the success of our first event\, we at GEO are proud and excited for what the future holds.
